Mercedes-Benz has released details regarding its new lightweight 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 engine. The engine was speculated upon late last year and now is confirmed as reality. It will be used in certain AMG models, the first being the S 63 AMG from this summer.

When the new Formula-1 season gets underway in Manama/Bahrain (12-14 March 2010), it will mark the debut of the most spectacular and powerful Official F1 Safety Car of all time. The job of the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, which will be launched on 27 March 2010, is to ensure maximum safety in Formula 1. The “gullwing” model replaces the SL 63 AMG, which was used as the Official F1TM Safety Car in 2008 and 2009. As in the last two years, the C 63 AMG Estate will be used as the Official F1 Medical Car for the coming season.

The new SLS AMG is to receive an internationally 
renowned design award, the “iF product design award 2010″. The iF product design award was first presented in 1953, and ranks among the most important design awards of all. The 24-member jury chose 778 entries from around 2500 candidates in 16 categories; the SLS was up against numerous well-known competitors in the “Transportation Design” category.

Mercedes-Benz has announced two special edition SL and SLK models. The SL Night Edition is not a reference to when it can be driven but rather to the colours used inside and out. Exterior paint finish is a designo magno night black matt matched with 19-inch AMG five-spoke alloys in a two-tone gloss finish and darkened lights on both ends. It is also identifiable by a Night Edition badge on the front wings.
